Picking Teams,Rules and Positions Empty
PostSubject: Picking Teams,Rules and Positions   Picking Teams,Rules and Positions Icon_minitimeMon Jun 25, 2012 8:59 am

Rules:

1. Each house must have at least a Seeker for a match to take place. A team may be rearranged before a match. In this event, the captain must PM a referee with the new team by midnight of the night before the match. If they do not, the match will be played with players as previously decided. Although it is beneficial to have at least one player in each position, it is up to your captain to decide the layout of the team.

2. Each day Quaffles will be thrown onto the pitch. The Chasers will have three hours + broom time from the time the Quaffle is "thrown" to answer the question. It will then be thrown at the Keeper and they will have six hours + broom time from the time the referee posts the question to "block" the goal. Please be aware that this is not a given. Chasers can miss, Keepers can miss or be slow, etc etc.

3. Bludgers will be posted daily. If feasible, two bludgers will be on the field at any given time. Bludgers will have a target at all times. Beaters may hit the bludger at any time to redirect it - however, every time it is hit the clock restarts. There are 3 hours + broom time from the time the Bludger chooses a target for a Beater to beat it. If it strikes a player, they will be sent to the Hospital Wing for 2-6 hours and not be allowed to play. People are clumsy. Beaters may sometimes miss or, oh dear, get hit themselves or strike themselves with a bat sometimes! Whoops!

4. The Golden Snitch will appear at times anywhere on the site, with the exception of the Library, Gringotts and passworded areas. There will be some off-hand comment of a "Snitch sighting" when it is out and about. If anyone else on your team attempts to answer the question, your team will forfeit. Whichever team gets the Golden Snitch will receive 50 points and the match will end.

5. After the referee verifies that the Snitch has been caught successfully, play will halt as of that time, and the scores will be tallied. A cumulative Quidditch Cup tally will be posted with the results of the match. As a note to seekers, it is in your best interest not to advertise that you've caught the Snitch. If you indeed were wrong, play will continue and you may have lost Quaffle opportunities if you begin celebrating too early.

6. This is an invaluable opportunity to earn hundreds of house points! Each team plays the other three only once. The days each teams begin play is selected completely at random.

7. All conversations must be held in Lee Jordan's Commentary Box. The actual game will be used only for answering questions. Any extraneous posts will result in a 15 HP deduction per post and will immediately be deleted.

8. Just like in real Quidditch, do not ever expect all Quaffles to be caught, to be thrown correctly, to be blocked correctly. Do not expect all bludgers to be hit if the beater tries, to be hit at the right player, or to act rationally. You may expect it to do one thing, and then it just picks up and shoots right for somebody. The Snitch may disappear for hours and hours and then just hover in front of you. Such is Quidditch. Deal with it.

Picking Teams:

The Heads of Houses will be choosing each house's captain. The captain will then choose his/her team, under direction of the Head of House. There may be "seconds" chosen for each position...however, these seconds must replace a player for the rest of the match after the player publicly forfeits his/her position for that match on the quidditch pitch. The second will then take over, and in the event that he/she cannot finish the match - if the player is a seeker, the match is forfeited. If the player is any other position, the match is continued until the golden snitch is captured. Also, the captain may not retire during a match unless the match will be forfeited. The captain may assign another captain for an upcoming match if they feel they cannot perform for the whole match. Each team only needs a Seeker in order for a match to take place.

Updates may be added.
Positions:

For Keepers: When a Chaser shoots the Quaffle, we will post your blocking question and you will have three hours from the question's post time to answer it to block the team's Quaffle.

For Beaters: A bludger will be shot at somebody 2 people at the beginning of the match. You will have three hours from the time the bludger is posted in which to hit it at the other team, and you must specify a player. We will then post another bludger question for the other team's beater(s), which they will have three hours to block for their team member and specify who they are redirecting to. If they do not, the bludger will temporarily put the player out of commission (may not participate in Quidditch for 2-6 hours hours from time of impact). The beater(s) may redirect the bludger at any player of their choosing by answering the question. If answered correctly, the referee will then post another question aimed at the person the beater chose, and the bludger will strike three hours from that question. Please note that redirecting will reset the clock.

For Chasers:The quaffle will be posted at the beginning of the match for either teams' chasers and they will have three hours in which to post a reply - any chaser may post a reply, but do not post the same answer more than once. If none of the chasers get a correct answer, or by some chance it is answered at the same time on the posts, the Quaffle is thrown out and a new one is thrown in. There will more than likely be multiple Quaffles per game. Also, once the Quaffle has scored or been saved, the corresponding Keeper will proceed to throw it towards the Chasers on their team. The referee will post a Quaffle question directed at that team's Chasers. If they miss (do not answer w/in three hours), the Quaffle is then available to any Chaser. The players who are able to answer each quaffle question are specified after the question.

For Seekers: The snitch will not always be available. It will be posted at a time when neither or both is signed on and preferably when both seekers are either both awake or both asleep. It will be available for up to 6 hours at a time and then will disappear again. When it is posted somewhere, a "Snitch sighting" will appear somewhere and another post will appear when it has disappeared. When a seeker finds the snitch, it will take them to a page with the snitch question. If they answer correctly, the match will end AS OF THE TIME SUBMITTED. I will be receiving a pm with the time recorded, so any posts after that time will be discarded. However, it would be in your team's best interest to NOT announce when you THINK you've caught the Snitch. If, in fact, you answered incorrectly, the Snitch will be rereleased and all posts during that time period are fair game. Place where it is and the correct answer must be given for a successful catch otherwise it will move, regardless whether the other seeker has given the correct answer and place, only the first seeker to pm me will be considered (with broom advantage being taken into account).

Please note, in keeping with true Quidditch tradition, bludgers may also be shot off without warning at any given player based on the common time zone, and it will be up to a beater's activeness to block that shot within 3 hours. Also, the Quaffle may randomly appear if the Snitch is not caught quickly, so be alert!
